The BIPM staff

The BIPM is an intergovernmental organization based just outside Paris (France). It has a staff of about 70 dedicated to its work programme, which includes a technical programme of comparison and calibration activities, capacity broadening and liaison work, and support and input to the many international committees and working groups under the auspices of the CIPM.

The BIPM is...

  • the international organization established by the Metre Convention in 1875, through which Member States act together on matters related to measurement science and measurement standards

  • the home of the International System of Units (SI) and the international reference time scale (UTC).
