Metrology for Safe Food and Feed - Secondment Opportunities - OTA Calibrants and Matrix CRMs
The following visiting scientist secondment opportunities exist at the NRC, Canada, which focus on culturing, isolation and purification of Ochratoxin A material for reference material production for Skills Broadening Secondments, and characterization of Ochratoxin A matrix reference materials for Training Secondments.
The skills broadening secondments will cover solid-state fermentation and the isolation and purification of OTA material, suitable for the development of standard calibration solutions (1 secondment opportunity for 6 months in 2020/2021).
The training secondments will cover the preparation and characterization of OTA in 'food matrix' (2 secondment opportunities for 3 months in 2021/2022).
Eligibility Criteria:
Skills Broadening secondments are open to experienced scientists from NMIs/DIs participating in the MMCBKT programme and other NMIs, DIs of Member States and Associates.
The visiting scientist shall have an analytical or biological chemistry background with practical experience in liquid chromatography or microbial culturing and be able to work autonomously. The communication, instruction and relevant documentation will be provided in English and a working knowledge of English is therefore necessary.
Training secondments are open to scientists from NMIs/DIs participating in the MMCBKT programme and other NMIs, DIs of Member States and Associates.
These institutions must have laboratories equipped with organic analysis measurement instruments including a liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry (LC-MS) system.

Financial Support:
NRC, Canada will provide partial financial support (accommodation and travel expenses) to visiting scientists when they undertaking Skills Broadening secondments at NRC.
Participating institutes will be required to provide their own financial support for training secondments.
NMIs/DIs wishing to participate in these secondments should contact Dr Jeremy Melanson (NRC, Canada) for further information.
