Links between the BIPM and UNECE
- UNECE is one of the partners in INetQI.
- The BIPM participated in the project on the revision of the UNECE Recommendation K on Metrological Assurance of Conformity Assessment and Testing in order to modernize the language to align with current working methods.
- The BIPM authored the chapter on metrology of the UNECE WP.6 publication The Basics of Quality Infrastructure for Trade.
- The BIPM participates in the meetings of the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP.6).
Purpose
UNECE is one of five regional commissions of the United Nations. UNECE's major aim is to promote economic integration among its 56 Member States and beyond. WP.6 encourages increased regulatory coherence in specific sectors that have a critical impact on sustainable development and promotes greater resilience to natural and man-made hazards.
The BIPM and UNECE cooperate within the context of the quality infrastructure to ensure effective dissemination of information on the importance of the quality infrastructure and particularly metrology as one of its key components among regulators and referencing the CIPM MRA in WP6 Recommendation K to facilitate regulatory cooperation and avoid trade barrier issues.
