Focus areas: climate science, quantum technologies and the digital transformation

We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Varenna Summer School on Metrology, organised by the Italian Physical Society (SIF), with support from the BIPM. The course will take place from 9 to 18 July 2025 at the historic Villa Monastero in Varenna, Italy, as part of the renowned Enrico Fermi International School of Physics series.

This year’s theme, “Future needs for metrology: Climate science, quantum technologies and the digital transformation,” brings together leading experts to explore how metrology is evolving to meet global challenges across science and society.

The 10-day school will feature:

  • 22 expert lecturers
  • 40 in-depth lectures
  • A 3-day core module on the fundamentals of metrology (mandatory for all participants)
  • Two 3-day optional modules focusing on:
    • Physical metrology
    • Metrology supporting quality of life

Participants may choose to attend the full 10-day programme or opt for a focused 7-day track by selecting one optional module
