The Impact of Transfer Standards and their Uncertainties in the Field of Fluid Flow
Speaker: Enrico Frahm (PTB), Chair: Bodo Mickan (PTB)
This presentation will give an introduction to typical transfer standards and their uncertainties in the field of fluid flow. Experiences from recent flow comparisons will be discussed, specifically where the importance of transfer standard uncertainty has been identified as an additional way of interpreting comparisons by identifying inconclusive results. It will be demonstrated that a discussion of inconclusive calibrations leads to more differentiated comparison results than a capability decision, based only on the classical En approach. Characteristic input parameters to transfer standard uncertainty, such as long-term calibration stability or sensitivities to different fluid temperatures, process pressures or disturbed inflow conditions, will also be presented.
Performance of transfer standards in Key Comparisons in the field of force and torque
Speakers: Andrea Prato (INRIM) and Mikolaj Wozniak (RISE), Chair: Andy Knott (NPL)
This presentation explores the performance of transfer standards in key comparisons (KCs) for force and torque measurements. It briefly covers the planning and execution of KCs, as well as the selection of appropriate transfer standards. The main focus is on ensuring accuracy by applying specific measurement procedures to minimize effects such as drift, environmental conditions, electrical energisation parameters, short-term creep and parasitic loading, along with methods for applying corrections. The goal is to provide insights into achieving reliable and comparable results across different laboratories, contributing to a robust Key Comparison Reference Value (KCRV).
