Overview

The BIPM and the Italian Physical Society (SIF) collaborate to organize the Varenna Metrology Summer School at the Enrico Fermi International School of Physics in Varenna, Italy.

The program of the Varenna Metrology School is designed with consideration of the current challenges and opportunities in measurement science. It also provides numerous opportunities for young metrologists and lecturers to network informally at events outside the lectures, allowing them to form useful contacts for the future.

2025 Varenna Summer School and Placement at METAS

The 2025 Varenna Summer School on Metrology will take place from 9 to 18 July 2025 in Varenna, Italy. Details on the application process and program are available on the dedicated webpage.

A limited number of young metrologists from Member States or Associates will have the opportunity to receive sponsorship from METAS, the National Metrology Institute of Switzerland. This sponsorship will cover attendance at the 2025 Varenna Summer School on Metrology and a short placement (two to six weeks) at METAS, Switzerland, to pursue a specific metrology topic of interest. The sponsorship is intended for young metrologists with strong scientific potential who are expected to be the "high flyers" of tomorrow.

Young metrologists interested in this opportunity must first register for the 2025 Varenna Summer School and then apply for the sponsorship using the application form provided below.
