Precision measurement of electric power and related quantities

Dr Ilya Budovsky (NMIA, Australia)

The presentation provides examples of the realisation of the unit of electric power (watt) at mains and higher frequencies. It discusses the design of primary standards of electric power and its components, such as measurement transformers and ac resistors of ultimate accuracy. An overview is given of emerging needs in the precision measurements of electric power and related quantities, particularly in support of renewable energy.

On-site calibration of power transformer loss measurement systems

Prof. Gert Rietveld (VSL, Netherlands)

This presentation will present a special case of precision power measurement, namely the calibration of power transformer loss measurement systems (LMSs). LMSs are used by power transformer manufacturers to verify the losses of their products in the final factory acceptance test. The presentation will detail how the ultimate measurement capabilities in high voltage, high current and power need to be combined in order to meet the challenging LMS calibration needs of power transformer manufacturers. Particular attention will be paid on how these uncertainties are achieved on-site, under the harsh conditions of industrial power transformer test laboratories.
