Links between the BIPM and the IEC

• The BIPM has Liaison A status with IEC/TC 1 Terminology and IEC/TC 25 Quantities and units.
• The IEC is one of the partners in INetQI.
• The IEC is a member of the JCGM.
• The IEC participates in the CCU and the CCAUV.

Purpose

The IEC publishes International Standards for electrotechnology (electrical, electronic and related technologies). The IEC provides a platform to companies, industries and governments for meeting, discussing and developing the International Standards they require.

The BIPM and the IEC cooperate through ISO where joint ISO/IEC standards are concerned. Jointly with ISO, the IEC publishes standards having an impact on metrology, such as ISO/IEC 17025.
